The Titan Project – Week 15

It’s Chico time!!!

Ok..  it’s not, but it IS Titan update time! 🙂

We at Tykens Rift are taking a little break from all these Tau-gasms to show off some more progress.

I’m hard at work on my Space Marines for the upcoming Battle Brothers tournament next month, so shamefully, my Warhound has taken a bit of a back seat but I have added some bits.

First off I have picked out all the little skulls and plates and icons on the legs in Tin Bitz and then with Runelord Brass but I’ve tried to leave some of the Tin Bitz showing here and there. They will eventually be gold but these are the first steps in my new gold recipe! It’s taken me ages to settle on a way of painting gold that I’m happy with but I now have one that I think looks effective and not too over-the-top shiny. My Lysander model which will be on show soon has a good example of this on the thunder hammer, but that’s for another day 🙂

 

 

One they’re finished I just need to add a little bit of weathering I think and then that’s the legs pretty much done. I will then fix them to the base and divert attention back to the main body. I have started painting the underside of the carapace now but I only got as far as undercoating some of the pipework and grills because of a catastrophic foot break that need some serious epoxy love! Obviously the Titan’s foot, not mine. I also repositioned the magnet for the main ventilation chamber as I wasn’t happy with how it sat on top of the model but I haven’t photographed that.

 

 

 

The only other things this week were finishing the Aquila on the head canopy and picking out the screens inside. I’ve used my new gold recipe for the former and my tried and tested green lens blend for the screens! That’s pretty much done now as far as the head in concerned – the canopy at least – although I need to pick out the lights and controls on the actual front of the main the head piece. I’m going back to painting Space Marines now for a few days!

Tau Codex Cover art unleashed

At long last, the final question of ‘What does the Tau Codex look like?’ has been answered…  albeit with some (probably German) spelling 🙂

 

 

All 6th Edition Codex covers have been great so far.

What do you think of this one? I kinda like it myself.

Showcase: Forge World Tau Crisis Team

Hello…. #MiniatureMonday!!!

With the surrounding buzz for the impending 6^th Ed Tau Codex, we at the Rift thought it would be nice to display this completed Forge World Crisis Team.

First spotted by the Imperium during the Taros campaign, (or as we Tau now know it, the T’ros Campaign), these suits were deployed to halt the assassination of the traitorous Planetary Governor Aulis from The Avenging Suns, and again to defend Taros from the 4621st Imperial Army.

I’ve painted these suits in the same colour scheme as the rest of my Bork’an Sept force; Fang, Russ Grey and a final dry brush highlight Etherium Blue. The lenses can’t be seen too well from these photos but they are; Naggaroth Night, Druchii Violet, and Xereus Purple with a white dot. Everything has a nice glossy finish, hence the shine.

Above is the XV89; the bulkier of the FW suits and looks pretty cool. As well as looking like Bumblebee from Transformers this variant comes with heavy plating, giving it a 2+ armour save.

Above the XV84; the long stem at the back gives the suit additional war gear for some extra tricks. You know the Tau love their tech, Apple fan bois, I tell ya.

So here are the rumours so far split by Unit Types for ease of reading.

  • Release is looking like the 6^th April.

    • Some kind of upgrade or character called Cadre Fireblade that boosts FWs. May even be a budget HQ choice.

  • XV104 Riptide Battlesuit – £50 / US$85
    • Stats; T6 W4 2+ Save, 5+ Inv, Jet or Jump Pack.
    • Weapons: Ion Cannon, Burst Cannon, Rail Cannon options. Plus other crisis weapons mounted under primary weapons and on shoulders. Two Shield Drones, new variant or look. Has something called a Nova Reactor which boots primary weapons
    • Look: 7 or 8 inches tall and comes with multiple heads to choose from
  • Crisis Suits £45 / US$75
    • Now sold in a box set of three models. Same models.
    • Possibly new wargear options.
  • Stealthsuits
    • Can now BS2 Overwatch

• Fast Attack

  

  • Sunshark Bomber – £40 / US$65
    • Weapons: Plasma Generator which launches bombs/missiles. Defensive drones with rail rifles.
  • Razershark Fighter – £40 / US$65
    • Weapons: Burst and Ion Cannons, seeker missiles.

    

  • Pathfinders -£20
    • Special Character Pathfinder called Nightstrider.
    • Come in kit of what looks like 10 with 3 drones.
    • Drones: A Grav Inhibitor, Pulse Accelerator and Recon Drone.

• Heavy

  

  • XV88 Broadside Battlesuit – £30 / US$50
    • Stats: T4 2+ Save, Slow and Purposeful
    • A new look battlesuit, similar to many previous conversions holding railguns in both hands.
    • Now a plastic kit.
    • Railguns now S8 AP1 Heavy 1 but has SkyFire if chosen at the start of the turn.  Cost is 85pts.
    • Base is now 60mm.
  • SkyRay
    • Can now shoot air targets
  • Tank Commander
    • Possibly allows Overwatch.
