Warhammer World Grand Re-Opening

Good morning!

So, yeah, this is mega-late given that the event took place over 3 weeks ago, but I thought it was about time I shared some photos I took while at Warhammer World on May 16th.

I didn’t manage to get my hands on a Warlord Titan, mainly because, y’know..  he’s £1240, but also because they had 6 and sold out of them in the first 10 minutes! I’m really trying hard not to save the money for one at the Forge World open day in July. I keep trying to convince myself that I need a Reaver first. Or need to finish my Knight house. I guess we’ll see. Frankly if Corax is out then I’ll just want him.

Anyway, here’s the first barrage of photos…..  mainly new/upcoming stuff and Titans. I’ll post up the pictures from the exhibition hall at a later date.

Forge World Open Day

Good morning!

So it’s been almost a week since the annual Forge World open day and we thought it was about time we put up a few pictures and dished out some information.

The pictures in this post show the two Mechanicum Krios tanks that have been developed so far. One – the battle tank – was available on the day in limited numbers but the ‘Venator’ variant is still waiting in the wings.

I had long conversations with Matt Murphy-Kane, Simon Egan, Neil Wylie and Alan Bligh about various things they were working on, and got a very good walkthrough from Matt about how he created the Alpha Legion paint scheme. I will be trying this at some point!

Simon is working on a Primarch but he wouldn’t tell me which one! Apparently we are going to see him at the Horus Heresy weekender in May (which we at tykensrift are attending!) as well as a work-in-progress of the next Primarch. Everyone has had a guess at who this could be after hints here and there from Forge World but the best hint I got on the day was: “have a look at which legion has the most units and specific kits and still doesn’t have their Primarch… ”

Based on that, it can only be Mortarion. He is the only Primarch from Betrayal that’s yet to be released and the Death Guard have a lot of units available.

Alan Bligh spoke about the next trilogy of Horus Heresy books and said that book 4, ‘Prospero’ wouldn’t be out until next year at the earliest as it’s still in the planning phase and hasn’t yet gone into development. Books 5 (Calth) will be at least 6 months after Prospero and book 6 (Signus) will be at least 6 months after that.

As the Custodes are going to be in Book 4, I asked if Constantin Valdor will get rules as well, even though he wasn’t on Prospero and was told that they hadn’t decided yet but it’s possible.

Unfortunately there weren’t many other new Horus Heresy kits on show, when I asked Tony Cottrell about this, he said they were saving things for the HH Weekender and there would be ‘..loads of cool stuff on show there.’

The eagle eyed amongst you will have seen Forge World’s Knights. These are seriously coooool. I’m a teeny bit disappointed that they are a fair bit taller than the GW Knights because they are pretty mucy Warhound Titan sized and it kind of makes my Warhound look less impressive but that is literally the only gripe I have – and it’s a crap gripe at that!

My pal at Forge World tells me we will see one or both of these Knights released in several weeks as they’re in production now.

The Mechanicum trend continues with the Thanatar Siege-class Automata and I for one am pretty impressed. I expect I will get into creating a Dark Mechanicum army as soon as I’ve finished messing about with my Tau and Raven Guard, so it’s great to see so many nice looking models being developed. The Mechanicum are one of those armies that people have been crying out for and they’re finally here; it also gives FW a chance to flex their ‘cyber/steam-punk’ creative muscles!

I can confirm that Imperial Armour 13 is in progress and should be ready by Games Day 2014. This is a Chaos equivalent to the Imperial Armour 2 update that was released just before Christmas and gives Chaos rule updates for vehicles as well as Chaos rules to newer vehicles – Cerberus, Kharybdis Claws etc.

Last thing of note…  I bought a copy of Extermination and as a Raven Guard player I’m happy to confirm that Corax is an absolute MONSTER! I can’t wait to get the model… whenever that is! 🙂

Cheers,

Neil

Forge World Open Day – We’re going!

Are you going?

Myself and Chris will both be in attendance, so feel free to come and say ‘Hello!’ 🙂

We will be doing some live blogging with photos of all the models – work-in-progress or othewise – to try and bring the event to everyone who wasn’t able to get a ticket. You can follow these updates by checking the blog here or via Twitter (@tykensrift) with the #FWOpenDayLive hashtag .

While you’re waiting, here’s the video interview of Alan Bligh introducing Imperial Armour 12: The Fall of Orpheus.

Enjoy!

Cheers,

Neil

Weekend Battle Report 3

WARHAMMER WORLD!!!!

So the other weekend 3 of us took the 4 hour journey up to WHW for the first #ForgeWorldOnly meet (Check out the projects blog and the founders twitter handle here). We showed off what little we had achieved so far and decided to get some games in on the cool boards @war_game_geek reserved for the day.

Note: In the end it was quite an adventure, besides me, Neil and Chris, only Andy (@war_game_geek) were able to attend. This would have been fine had my car not broken down, resulting in us getting towed home, eventually arriving back at 3am. I had no idea it was the duty of the tired and distressed passenger to keep the recovery guy awake by chatting solid for 4 hours. Needless to say I was shattered, very irritable and bloody broke. Got a couple of games in though so I guess that makes up for it? (second Battle Report coming soon)

Space Marines (500pt) and Battle Brothers Grey Knight detachment (500pt) VS Space Marines and Battle Brothers Tau Empire detachment (500pt)

Game Type: Zone War Mortalis, 1000pt boarding skirmish

Space Marines: 2 x 5 man Combat squads, 1 x Sternguard squad, 1x Terminator Squad and Captain. Grey Knights: Brother Captain, 5 Grey Knight Terminators

Space Marines: 2 x Tactical Squads, 1 x Sternguard squad w/ Space Marine Captain. Tau: 2 x 10 Fire Warrior teams, Kroot blob and hounds, 3 Stealth Suits.

Image

Deployment: SP + GK win the dice roll and prepare to board a listing space hulk. Blasting their way through the outer hull they deploy to the port bow. Unknown to them their foe was to the opposite corner of the board, to the starboard stern, waiting. Soon they’re going to meet in the dark and dingy hull of the ship with only laser fire to light up the enemy.

Turn 1

Tactical squads and termies march down the ships corridors. This unit of hardened genestealer smashing roid machines know a thing or two about space hulks, but this smells different, smells worse. Not the kind of smell which causes a warrior of the imperium to shudder, but the kind that thinks, “sweet Emperor, that’s worse than my Astartes sack.” KROOT!

Gathering pace from the other side of the board they can hear the hounds and snarling of an advancing blob of Kroot.

Image

Turn 2

Closing in on the enemy the boarding party realise they’re about to counter a long straight corridor of death.  There is only one thing for a battle hardened Marine to do in such a situation… let the newbies go first. Turning round the bend to face the pitch black they encounter their foe, Stealth Suits and Fire Warriors. Fearless and resolute, the Marines open up and take out a stealth warrior.

Returning fire with fusion blasters and burst cannons the Tau plough in, but Marine armour holds up.

Image

Turn 3

The Marine Captain who has been attempting to outflank, walks into a corridor of waiting Fire Warriors. Hammer held aloft he piles in for an assault. These blue squashy aliens with their soft rubber gun buts are an unknown quantity to this captain, and amazingly he fails to wound, its snake eyes. But surely he won’t lose the assault and fall back? Oh but yes he does. Who put him in charge we’ll never know.

Image

Image

Further up the corridor is a battered stealth team and a soon to be gutted Kroot blob, because in come the steadiest of all space hulk destructive Astartes, Terminators, all of them called Arnie. Cracking skulls and making a right royal mess of things they win the assault. The Kroot have no choice but to break and run, and in doing so send fear into the hearts of their Marine allies who do likewise only to rally.

Image

Turn 4

Going well for the invading party they push on, sending the Grey Knights forward to finish the Kroot and take out their allied Sternguard.

The Marine Captain standing in disarray and his pride broken regains his composure. Assaulted by Tau allied Marines he thinks, ah… finally a fight with something I understand. Unleashing his hammer he crushes four Marines, heads now splattered across the deck.

Image

Turn 5

The defenders are finally rounded up and sliced, diced, gunned down… well, generally slaughtered to the last man/xenos.

Image

Conclusion:

Tau + Marine: Zone War Mortalis is fun but really you should take plenty of things for assault and anti termie weaponry. So lots of plasma and power weapons.

Marines + Grey Knights:

Hahaha…  HAHAHAHA….  *ahem* sorry. Yes, Terminators and rapid fire bolters are devastating in Zone Mortalis. I would like to play again with some assault cannons or autocannons too.
